Which Treatments are Right for You?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found on your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds.

There are two different types of wrinkles:

Dynamic wrinkles are caused when muscles contract to make facial expressions such as smiles and frowns. Static wrinkles develop because our skin's natural substances (such as collagen and hyaluronic acid), which provide structure and volume, decrease over time.

Botox and Fillers are two possible ways to treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Both are non-surgical, but they work differently:

Botox is injected beneath the skin’s surface to target the underlying muscle activity which is one of the causes of moderate to severe lines such as those between the brows and crow’s feet. BOTOX® Cosmetic temporarily reduce the activity of those muscles. The decreased muscle movement not only diminishes the lines for a smoother finish, but helps to prevent too.

Fillers and lifters are injected into the skin to lift tissue and smooth moderate to severe wrinkles. Certain fillers can also lift the aging skin causing a more youthful appearance. Volume can be restored to areas of tissue loss due to the aging process.

Fillers~ Volumizers, Lifters, & Line Smoothers

Juvederm Voluma, RHA and more...

Dermal fillers help lift tissue, diminish facial lines, and restore volume and fullness that was lost with age.  This results in a more youthful appearance.

As  we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat, muscle, and even bone. The facial muscles  are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow’s  feet become more apparent. Tissue loses it's support, causing facial sagging.

Other factors that affect the  facial skin include sun exposure, heredity, and lifestyle.

Dermal fillers can be used in steps to Lift then Fill without over volumizing the cheeks or lips.

Treatments with fillers include:
Defining thin, aging lips

Volumizing thin lips
Enhance shallow contours
Soften facial creases and wrinkles
Improve the appearance of recessed scars

Lifting facial sagging which begins to occur in the mid/late 40's

Botox fillers work hand in hand to give you optimal results.

Wrinkles

Brown or Age Spots

Brown or Age Spots

As you age, your skin's collagen and elastin simply break down faster  than your body can rebuild them. The slowed remodeling of these  skin-tightening proteins causes your skin to thin, droop and lose  elasticity—which often leads to winkles, furrows and fine lines.

If you have wrinkles on your face or around your eyes, you've  probably had a wonderful life, rich with laughter and emotional  experiences. After all, expressions like smiling, laughing, pondering  and squinting naturally involve the contraction of muscles—which can  lead to wrinkles, furrows and fine lines.

Brown or Age Spots

Brown or Age Spots

Age spots are due more to sunning than aging. These spots—also called  sunspots, brown spots or liver spots—are flat, uneven dark patches on  the face, neck, chest, hands and arms and other areas that are regularly  exposed to the sun. Though usually harmless, these blotchy brownish  patches can make you look and feel older than you really are.

In the sun, your body reacts by producing a pigment called  melanin to protect your skin from ultraviolet rays. If you spend a lot  of time in the sun, your skin may overreact by producing too much  melanin. That increased pigmentation can result in age spots, which fall  into a broad medical category called "pigmented lesions."

Skin Resurfacing

Brown or Age Spots

Acne or Surgical Scars

Over the years, your skin is exposed to sun, air pollution, stress,  fatigue and lifestyle factors such as smoking. It all can affect your  skin's texture, color and tightness.

To resurface your skin and correct imperfections, there are many  options from chemical peels to dermabrasion. But unlike other remedies  that scrape, peel and cut the surface of your skin, Fraxel laser  treatment has been cleared by the FDA to safely, gently and effectively  resurface your skin from the inside out. That means improved  texture, more even tone and smoother skin—all with minimal risks, and  without discomfort and prolonged downtime of other procedures.

Acne or Surgical Scars

Scars are depressions or indentations in the skin that occur after a  medical condition such as acne or after a surgical incision. Especially  when they're on the face or other visible areas, scars can carry the  the unpleasant reminders or take away from natural beauty.

Fraxel is the original fractional laser treatment that works below the  skin’s surface, addressing imperfections like fine lines, visible photo aging, wrinkles, scarring and age spots. Fraxel  light energy stimulates your skin’s natural collagen, rejuvenating skin  cells below the surface to help smooth the creases & pockets that  cause wrinkles and scars.

Chemical Peels & Medical Skin Care Products

Chemical Peels

Medical grade blended chemical peels are offered in our practice. These types of peels  reflect how they have advanced over time. We used to use only one  peeling ingredient at very high concentrations which injured and then  rejuvenated the skin. In contrast, The Peel blends several more natural  chemical peeling ingredients each at a lower concentration to achieve  the same degree of skin rejuvenation.

These new peels feature  "layered technology" where the blended active ingredients work together,  additively, synergistically, to potentiate each other--optimizing the  results. This new technology is less caustic, safer, more predictable,  more focused on specific skin problems, less uncomfortable, and faster to heal.

The Peel not only contains specific acids, but also  Retinol to increase cell turnover and reduce pigment and Antioxidants to soothe and hydrate the skin.

Care of skin before a Peel

Pre treatment skin care regimens would include:

  • avoid being tan for the treatment
plan to avoid excessive direct sun exposure for a week following the treatment
  • use  some form of both glycolic acid and retinol products to enhance the  effects of the chemical peel.  At the Pre-treatment Consultation a  personal skin care plan is developed based on your skin type and  conditions to treat.
  • some patients with darker skin or  pigmentary issues are pretreated with a hydroquinone product as well  (reduces the possible stimulation of melanin).

Care of skin after a Chemical Peel
There is no downtime after light and light/medium peels.
Skin care after the chemical peel includes:

  • keep the skin moisturized
  • avoid direct sun exposure
  • wear a sunscreen
  • avoid scratching, rubbing, aggressively washing, picking or pulling at flakes of skin, during the healing period
  • personalized instructions will be given the day of the peel
